Dear Earnestly Seeking,
King David of the OT is described by scripture as “a man after God’s heart.” He was far from being a perfect man, but his heart was tender and teachable. This great man of faith learned many of his biggest lessons in the loneliness and desperation of multiple desert experiences. They weren’t fun but foundational for his walk with the Lord. According to Psalm 63, David directed his heart to “earnestly” seek the Lord. This intentional dependence upon the Lord in tough times allowed his soul to rejoice and delight instead of grumbling and complaining because of the very real difficulties. May we follow his example in our own lives as we are often faced with those “dry and weary” desert periods. Don’t retreat back into the world’s ways of independence, don’t fall down and give up, but fix your eyes on Jesus and experience through God’s grace and our faith that his “love is better than life!” Please pray that I will do the same.
